I had the awful experience of having my car broken into and an attempt to steal it. Let me paint the backdrop. It’s a beautiful sunny Tuesday 03 April. I just a had an amazing day, strategizing, dreaming and praying into the future of our business with my business partner and friend Carol Williams. Unpacking the “why” of our business and partnering with God about our way forward.
The neighborhood has its challenges, but the streets are populated with people, one could say a hive of activity. Children playing in the street and neighbors outdoors. As i walked out of the door. I saw my bonnet lid open. The first thing i thought was “ah Jason, did you forget to close your bonnet again?” This idea was further cemented when i saw nothing wrong or missing from my car. I closed the bonnet and proceeded to get into my car, as I opened my door i saw that my ignition was lying in pieces and all my doors unlocked. I began to chuckle and called my friend over and said “hey Carol look they tried to break into my car” She was immediately shocked and stepped into help mode, i was just at complete peace. I laughed because this car is my testimony, it was a gift from God and there was several attempts to cause harm or steal it from me.
It was given to me by someone (a friend) on the command by God. It came at a time when I needed it most and has served me so well since. That’s why this is my driving testimony.
This post is not a pity party or a glorification of the challenges in my life, but a focus on how good God is.
Romans 8:28 “and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” -NIV
The Message version says it better”
26-28 Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
I still have a car, the ignition can easily be fixed and nothing valuable (that cannot be replaced) was stolen. I had friends and family who helped me get my car home and an uncle who is ever the ray of light and laughter cracking “Dad jokes” and sharing life lessons while hooking my car up to be towed.
I also see how I am developing a new language and experience of who God is. I have experienced peace before, but not like this. He calmed my fears, gave me some clarity as well as helped me see the humour in it all. How a day of dreaming, planning moving forward can potentially be derailed by this experience. Yes it’s a schlep to replace the broken parts as well as the costs involved, but it could have been worse.
Being in ministry and a follower of Jesus does place a target on your back, but my back is the least of my worries, because it is covered by my God. My life continues as per normal a new normal, with my testimony having a deeper meaning and my God being more real to me than ever before. My God is good you best believe it.
He is always good, you best believe it.
